Steven Karachinsky


Steven Karachinsky is a business enthusiast and successful entrepreneur. He is the founder & CEO of Stack8 Technologies, a growing communications company whose mission is to help customers achieve the promise of Digital Communications. Steven believes that creativity, collaboration and passion are the keys to success. Together with his wife Tara Baboushkin and her amazing skills and patience, they are raising their 3 daughters, Ella (SSA ’20) Presley (Grade 4, SSA) and Mila (Grade 1, SSA). As Herzliah alumni, Tara and Steven strongly believe in the value of Jewish education and are proud to be part of the SSA family.

Steven holds an MBA from McGill University and loves New England Patriots and everything related to the NFL.

Hélène Bussières


Hélène Bussières and her husband Michael Singer are the proud parents of three children. Alexandre and Benjamin are graduates of Solomon Schechter Academy and Rebecca is a student at SSA.  Hélène is Vice-President of the Board of Directors of the Solomon Schechter Academy Children’s Foundation, President of SSA’s Board of Trustees and a member of the Executive Committee. Over the last few years, she also served as Chair of the Risk Management Committee and on the PAC while her children were in pre-school. Hélène is a partner and the Head of the Employment and Labour group of Stikeman Elliott law firm in Montreal. She is a member of the Management Committee of the Montreal office and also acts as its Privacy Officer. In addition to her practice at the firm, Hélène teaches employment and labor law at the Quebec Bar School and is regularly a guest speaker at the Desautels Faculty of Management (McGill University). Hélène is also on the Board of Directors of Atelier Le Fil d’Ariane, a non-profit organization.

Harold Scharf


Harold Scharf and his wife Danna Dworkind are proud parents of two daughters, Madison, who currently attend Solomon Schechter Academy and Molly who recently graduated. Currently a member of the Solomon Schechter Academy Children’s Foundation, SSA’s Board of Trustees and the Solomon Schechter Finance Committee, Harold is a Quebec Chartered Professional Accountant who obtained a Bachelor of Commerce Degree from McGill University in 1995. Admitted to the Quebec Order of Chartered Professional Accountants in 1999, Harold worked at multinational accounting firms for 18 years, lectured at McGill University, and focused his practice on US corporate income tax. After many years in public accounting, Harold joined CAE Inc., a global manufacturer of flight simulators.

Jason Fellen


Jason Fellen and his wife Mia, are proud parents of 3 children, Olivia, Chloe and Matthew who are all graduates of Solomon Schechter Academy. While his kids attended SSA, Jason served 3 years as the Chair of the Safety and Security Committee at SSA. Jason now is a Board member of the Solomon Schechter Academy Children’s Foundation. Jason holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree with a major in accounting from Concordia University and is the President of Jammers Apparel Group.

Daniel Rosenfeld


Daniel Rosenfeld and his wife, Susan Abramowitz, are proud parents of two SSA alumni: Joshua (SSA 2012, LCC 2017, Dawson College 2019 and currently at McGill University) and Jacqueline (SSA 2013 and recent graduate of Centennial Academy). Daniel is a CPA and the President and managing partner of his accounting firm, Beiles& Frank Inc.  He has been a Board member since the Solomon Schechter Academy Children’s Foundation’s inception.  Prior to this, Daniel was involved in many facets of SSA Academy, as a Board member for 4 years, Treasurer for 2 years and also served on the school’s Finance Committee for eight years.  In addition to his involvement at SSA, Daniel was heavily involved in non-profit sports organizations, having served as coach, manager and league Treasurer at various times.

Jody Shugar


Jody Shugar is a graduate of Solomon Schechter Academy and Herzliah High School. Jody and her husband Mitchell Fersten have three children who graduated from SSA.  Jody completed her M.A. in Political Science in Paris and at McGill University and holds a B.C.L. and an LL.B. also from McGill University. She was called to the Quebec Bar in 1999 and joined Davies Ward Philips and Vineberg law firm following a one-year clerkship at the Supreme Court of Canada. Jody became a partner in the litigation department at Davies in 2004 but left the firm soon after to focus on raising her three children. She later joined her husband’s Company, Fersten Worldwide as Director of Legal Affairs. Jody was very active in the Kids for Kids Charity organization and in the Gen J Granting Committee, providing Promise Grants to promote Jewish Education in Montreal.  Jody got involved in SSA in 2005 when her oldest daughter Meghan was in Pre-Kindergarten, joining what was then the Education Committee. She joined the Board of Trustees in 2006 and the Executive in 2008 when she became Chair of the Education Committee. In 2010, Jody joined the Head Support and Evaluation Committee and in 2012, she became President of the Board of Trustees for a two-year term. Jody played a role in creating the Foundation and has been a Trustee since its inception.

Daniel Levine


Daniel Levine and his wife Pamela Feifer are the proud parents of James, who currently attends Solomon Schechter Academy, and Max who is a graduate of SSA ’16.  Daniel has served on the Finance Committee since 2008 until the present. During this time, he became the Treasurer of the Finance Committee from 2015-2017 for both the Academy, and the Foundation upon its inception.  Currently on the Board of Trustees since 2014, he was Chair of the Investment Committee, and has served on the Executive Committee, Committee of Trustees, and Real Estate Committee. Daniel has dedicated his efforts at SSA to ensure its financial strength increases in perpetuity in order to achieve the maximum impact and continuity for Solomon Schechter Academy and the Foundation’s future and its role in our greater community.  Daniel is a Chartered Investment Manager and a Fellow of the Canadian Securities Institute.  He is a Vice-President at National Bank of Canada, where he founded and is the lead Portfolio Manager of the Levine Family Wealth Counsel, since 1999.  During his spare time, he is involved in various non-profit organizations, and enjoys spending time with his family and coaching his son’s sport teams.
